Spring 2016

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We have had the mildest winter I can remember.  I have been able to paddle every month - even through January and February.  We also had little snow.
I hoped that the warm weather would presage an early Spring.  I paddle upstream.
I first went to the osprey nest to see if it was occupied.  No sign of them, nor did I hear their distinctive call.
There were numerous Canada geese and a few mallards about.  I headed downstream and decided to go up Sucker Brook.
I saw a few mallards and decided to shoot a few photos.  After a few minutes of my intrusion they flew off.
To my surprise, there were also 2 wood ducks in the background.  I have to remember to carefully study what I see in the viewfinder!
I paddled down to the turtle marsh.  I heard the call of a redwing blackbird.
I whistled their call - "ker ker keeee".  In a few seconds a black shape landed in a tree close to shore near me.
The first redwing blackbird of the year!
Spring is officially here!
